About me
My name is Lucas, and I am an IB student who has a deep curiosity for how nature and evolution solves problems. Before humans existed and began designing, nature was there biologically engineering some of the most elegant designs which we still draw from today.
The optimised structure of the leaf to receive sunlight and prevent loss of water in dry habitats, the geometry of a honeycomb to enable the maximisation of space, and the efficiency of a bird's wing to minimise energy usage — these are all instances where nature has displayed its attention to detail.
My works function as a bridge between these two worlds. I design everyday objects while looking from a nature standpoint, drawing on the natural forms, patterns, and behaviours that elevates these existing objects by making them both more functional and beautiful.
Design, to me, is not just about the aesthetics, but also the underlying functionality of the design, its more about why we accept certain objects for how they are currently, and how we could imagine what they could become if nature was the one leading the design.
